L’Oréal USA For Women in Science fellowship program

 

Applications for the 2021 L’Oréal USA For Women in Science program are now open and will close on Friday, January 29, 2021. The L’Oréal USA For Women in Science fellowship program honors female scientists at a critical stage in their careers with grants of $60,000 each. Since 2003, we’ve awarded 85 postdoctoral women scientists over $4 million in grants.


We’re seeking five exceptional female scientists looking to advance their research and serve as role models for the next generation of girls in STEM.
 
Candidates are selected from a variety of fields including the life and physical/material sciences, technology (including computer science), engineering, and mathematics. Candidates must have completed their PhD and have started in their postdoctoral position by the application deadline.

The Department of Defense's X-Force program is now accepting applications for technologists and entrepreneurs to serve their country by solving real-world national security problems in collaboration with the U.S. military. Interested individuals may apply now through December 31, 2020.

X-Force participants will engage with Department of Defense (DoD) partners for three months of applied problem solving. Participants will work on problems sponsored by their DoD hosts potentially including:

  • Technical (e.g. software development, data analytics, mechanical design/prototyping
  • Strategy (e.g. communications and social media strategy
  • Research (e.g. emerging technology scouting) projects

Participants will be expected to deliver a prototype capability to their military sponsors by the end of the program.

The full-time X-Force Fellows will be paid a stipend of around $2,500 per month and have a small budget for travel, materials, and other expenses related to the delivery of a product to their sponsor.

Soil Landscape Modeling Course - Spring 2021


This course is only taught in Spring odd years (i.e. Spring 2021, Spring 2023, Spring 2025 etc..).  In Spring 2021 semester, SWS 6722 – Soil Landscape Modeling will be taught 100% online and will also include an evening chat session via Zoom on Wednesdays 6:15 – 8:10 pm U.S. Eastern time (11 Period and E1 Period) that many students find very beneficial to their success in the course.  If anyone has trouble registering for this course or if they are a distance education student, please contact mjsisk@ufl.edu for registration assistance.

University of Florida Nutrition Study - Probiotics in Women

 University of Florida Nutrition Study 

Are you interested in participating in a socially distant nutrition research study? 

The UF Food Science and Human Nutrition Department is conducting a study to assess the effect of a probiotic supplement on gastrointestinal symptoms during menstruation. This study will last 9 weeks during which you will be asked to complete short daily and weekly questionnaires about your digestive health. For 8 weeks, you will be asked to take either a probiotic or placebo supplement. Participants will receive compensation upon study completion. Participants have the option to provide stool and vaginal swab samples for additional compensation. 

Potential participants must: 

  • be a healthy female between 18 and 35 years of age 
  • regularly menstruate (i.e., ≥12 times/year) 
  • currently be on an oral contraceptive 
  • be willing to complete daily and weekly questionnaires for 9 weeks 
  • be willing to consume a probiotic or placebo supplement for 8 weeks
