Fully-funded PhD Research Assistantship-Crop Modeling and Remote Sensing

Project theme: “Integrating Crop Modeling and Remote Sensing into Genome-wide Family
Prediction in Alfalfa”. PI: Esteban Rios, Assistant Professor, Agronomy Department

Candidates with a MS degree in Plant Breeding, Genetics, Biology, Statistics or Crop

Senior Irrigation Engineer position

Natural Resources Consulting Engineers, Inc. is seeking to fill a full-time opening for a senior irrigation engineer at its office in Fort Collins, Colorado. Position will provide technical support for projects related to water resources, irrigation, and water infrastructure. Position requires a Ph.D. in Agricultural & Irrigation or Civil Engineering.

Applicant must meet the following qualifications:
- Understand irrigated production agriculture in the United States.
- Experience with water transfers and western water rights.
- Engineering skills to design and estimate costs of irrigation systems, including pipe and pumps sizing, determine required heads for gravity, gated pipe, sprinkler and drip systems, pressurized and surface irrigation systems, land leveling needs, canals, and ditches.
- Understanding of water measurement, surface and groundwater hydrology.
- Ability to conduct irrigation system evaluations.
- Understanding and ability to assess canal operation and maintenance.
- Understanding of GIS and mapping.
- Ability to calculate crop and reference crop evapotranspiration, develop irrigation schedules, and estimate irrigation water demand.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience in budget management of projects and interaction with clients.
