Collective Water Resources -Internship/Employment

 Collective Water Resources is seeking a creative, passionate, and self-motivated engineer intern/engineer-in-training to join our team to work at the forefront of water resources and resilience. We are focused on improving the lives of others by creating products, processes, and tools that reduce the impact of climate change on the environment, economy, and society. The ideal candidate will have outstanding communications skills, a demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks while performing high quality work, and a strong desire to learn. The position requires a working knowledge in stormwater, water resources, hydrology, and a degree in civil, environmental, ecological, agricultural/biological, or related engineering field from an accredited institution. The ideal candidate will also have some background or experience with graduate-level hydrology, GIS, modeling, and environmental policy. Ideal candidates will have between 0 - 3 years of experience in consulting/engineering. Position location is in West Palm Beach. Essential Functions & Responsibilities
•Support the development, pursuit and delivery of planning projects associated with water resources, stormwater, and resilience.
• Collect, review, process, and manage data in support of hydrologic and hydraulic engineering analyses utilizing programs such as ArcGIS, Excel, and other hydrologic and hydraulic modeling platforms
• Prepare technical documents and reports under the supervision of an experienced engineer/professional
• Communicate with internal and external clients
Minimum Required Qualifications:
• BS or MS in Civil, Environmental, Ecological, Agricultural/Biological or related Engineering field from an accredited institution
• Certification as an Engineer Intern (pending or active)
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Excel, and GIS (preferred but not mandatory)
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
• Positive attitude and a strong work ethic
• Strong sense of urgency to meet deadlines
• Detail-oriented team player with an ability to contribute to a positive work environment
• Ability to work independently and as a team

Geosyntec Consultants - Part-time Environmental Engineering/Geology Intern

One of our alumni has notified us of a position opening at Geosyntec Consultants.

We are seeking a part time intern this summer in our Jacksonville office. It’s part time and in Jax but I think if the person lived in Gainesville they could maybe work it out to be 2 10-hour days or something and just commute in those days. The office is downtown so 1.5 hours from Gainesville or less.

The Department of Defense's X-Force program is now accepting applications for technologists and entrepreneurs to serve their country by solving real-world national security problems in collaboration with the U.S. military. Interested individuals may apply now through December 31, 2020.

X-Force participants will engage with Department of Defense (DoD) partners for three months of applied problem solving. Participants will work on problems sponsored by their DoD hosts potentially including:

  • Technical (e.g. software development, data analytics, mechanical design/prototyping
  • Strategy (e.g. communications and social media strategy
  • Research (e.g. emerging technology scouting) projects

Participants will be expected to deliver a prototype capability to their military sponsors by the end of the program.

The full-time X-Force Fellows will be paid a stipend of around $2,500 per month and have a small budget for travel, materials, and other expenses related to the delivery of a product to their sponsor.

NASA DEVELOP internship opportunity

NASA DEVELOP is under the Capacity Building Program within NASA’s Applied Sciences Program. NASA DEVELOP conducts feasibility research projects which use NASA satellite data to answer current environmental questions for our partner organizations while providing opportunities for professional and personal growth for our participants. Each year we have three "terms" that consist of 10 intense weeks of research and analysis that is conducted by a team of current students (undergraduate or graduate), recent graduates (undergraduate or graduate), and early/transitioning career professionals. Teams partner with professional organizations, offering unique opportunities for networking with these partners as well as with NASA scientists and advisors. Projects fall into one or two of the eight National Application areas, and are team led providing participants the opportunity to grow their leadership, professional, and technical skill sets. Many focuses of study can benefit from the program as they cultivate professional skills while they learn how to use GIS and remote sensing techniques. In the past, we have had successful applicants from a number of fields, such as Geography, History, Biology, Computer Science, Earth System Science, Anthropology, and Political Science. 


Responsibilities will include: literature review, data processing and analysis, and production of creative and written deliverables, such as a technical report, presentation, and video. Previous GIS or remote sensing knowledge, while beneficial, is not required for acceptance. This is a multi-disciplinary opportunity for all those interested in Earth science. 

Applicants must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment. Days of the week are flexible, but applicants should be able to commit to 20 – 29 hours per week during the spring term. The position is paid on an hourly basis that is determined by education level and location of work.

Graduate Level Water Quality Internship Opportunity

The Everglades Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration of the Everglades, is looking for a graduate level intern to work on water quality projects related to Everglades restoration. This is a six-month (Summer and Fall 2018) position located in our Palmetto Bay, Florida (Miami) office, starting in June 2018. The successful candidate will be expected to have basic knowledge of hydrology and water chemistry with advanced skills in statistics. Hypothesis testing, time series analysis, and geospatial analysis with ArcGIS is critical for this short-term position. Recent graduate students and post-graduate associates are eligible for this internship position.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate Office of University Programs sponsors a 10-week summer internship program for students majoring in homeland security related science, technology, engineering and mathematics (HS-STEM) disciplines. The program provides students with quality research experiences at federal research facilities located across the country and allows students the opportunity to establish connections with DHS professionals. It is open to undergraduate and graduate students in a broad spectrum of HS-STEM disciplines and DHS mission-relevant Research Areas.

Undergraduate students receive a $6,000 stipend plus travel expenses.

Graduate students receive a $7,000 stipend plus travel expenses.

The Consultant and Consulting Intern are a key member of the Strategy Group. The Strategy Group pursues three objectives:

1. Work with operating companies in the Central Valley of California to improve performance both through new growth initiatives and efficiency/cost reduction actions. These include a broad set of projects from M&A due diligence and international expansion to plant floor operations effectiveness and improvement in core operating processes.

Consultant and intern responsibilities are critically important and extremely visible:

Intern-Enrolled in a Science-focused (Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Economics) or Business-focused (General Management, Operations, Marketing, Finance) Masters or PhD program.
• Demonstrated interest in the agriculture and/or the food processing industry.
• Must be willing to live in California’s San Joaquin Valley (relocation provided).
• Superior problem solving and analytical skills (both quantitative and qualitative.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Focused, organized, results-oriented individual.
• Ability to work effectively with clients and within a team.
• Successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual, able to achieve high impact in an unstructured environment.
