Dissertation Fellowship Program - African American or Hispanic U.S. citizen

The Dissertation Fellowship Program offers Fellowships for up to one full academic year to selected Ph.D. students who are engaged in excellent research in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines

An applicant must be an African American or Hispanic U.S. citizen who has successfully defended his/her dissertation proposal or prospectus and advanced to doctoral candidacy and who will be enrolled in dissertation credit hours and maintain good academic standing as defined by his or her university during the award year. Current or former McKnight Doctoral Fellowship recipients may not apply.

Each award will provide a stipend of up to $12,000 in addition to expenses paid to participate in the McKnight Summer Research and Writing Institute and all other McKnight doctoral conferences and workshops during the award year.

2021 ForEverglades Scholarship/Fellowship Program

 The Everglades Foundation is offering scholarship and fellowship opportunities to students engaged in advanced research supporting the restoration of America’s Everglades. The Foundation is committed to supporting graduate research students actively pursuing the development of innovative scientific methods to advance the understanding of Everglades physical, chemical or biological processes, or research in economic impacts of environmental changes. This program is designed to support students up to $30,000 for one year.

CES info session - graduate funding-course and travel grants- 2/9 at 11 a.m.

 The UF Center for European Studies (CES) is now accepting applications for Academic Year 2021-2022 graduate funding course and travel grants.

CES offers graduate funding for the development of new, Europe-related courses and for Europe-related research or conference travel. The list of open grant calls is below. Click on the links to find out more:

L’Oréal USA For Women in Science fellowship program

 

Applications for the 2021 L’Oréal USA For Women in Science program are now open and will close on Friday, January 29, 2021. The L’Oréal USA For Women in Science fellowship program honors female scientists at a critical stage in their careers with grants of $60,000 each. Since 2003, we’ve awarded 85 postdoctoral women scientists over $4 million in grants.


We’re seeking five exceptional female scientists looking to advance their research and serve as role models for the next generation of girls in STEM.
 
Candidates are selected from a variety of fields including the life and physical/material sciences, technology (including computer science), engineering, and mathematics. Candidates must have completed their PhD and have started in their postdoctoral position by the application deadline.

SARE Offering Free Webinar on the Graduate Student Grant Program

The Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) program will be holding a free webinar on December 15 for Master’s and PhD students interested in learning more about and applying for Graduate Student Grants.

Graduate Student Grant program coordinators from each SARE region (Southern, Western, Northeast and North Central) will present an in-depth, “nuts and bolts” presentation on preparing a competitive proposal. Southern SARE’s presentation will take place on December 15 at 10:30 a.m. EST (9:30 a.m. CST).

An overview webinar of the SARE program and the Graduate Student Grants is available on the registration page. Graduate Students are encouraged to view the overview prior to the December 15 webinar presentation.

Graduate Student Grants are offered by all of the SARE regions. These grants are intended for Master’s and PhD students at accredited institutions who are interested in conducting sustainable agriculture research during their graduate program.

The Call for Proposals for Graduate Student Grants in the Southern region opens in February 2021 and is awarded in August of the same year. Fellowship Opportunity from Facebook

The Facebook Fellowship is a global program designed to encourage and support promising doctoral students who are engaged in innovative and relevant research in areas related to computer science and engineering at an accredited university.

The program is open to students in any year of their PhD study. People of diverse backgrounds and experiences are encouraged to apply, especially those from traditionally under-represented minority groups. Applications are evaluated based on the strength of the student’s research statement, publication record, and recommendation letters.

The Fellowship award includes:

Tuition and fees paid for the academic year (up to two years/four semesters)
A $42,000 annual stipend to cover living and conference travel costs
Paid visit to Facebook headquarters for the annual Fellowship Summit (pending COVID-19 restrictions)

Open Ph.D. position at UF - ENVIRONMENTAL NANOTECHNOLOGY

Open Ph.D. position at Dr. Faria’s Research Group at the Department of Environmental Engineering Sciences at University of Florida (UF)

ENVIRONMENTAL NANOTECHNOLOGY

Currently, Dr. Faria is seeking a Ph.D. student to work in the area of environmental nanotechnology. The candidate will research the bioactivity of nanomaterials and their application as antimicrobial coatings. Such antimicrobial coatings can be used to prevent bacterial attachment and control biofilm formation in engineered surfaces, medical devices, and food packing, to name a few. The candidate must demonstrate interest or has previous experience working with nanomaterials. Background, theoretical or practical, in microbiology is preferred but not mandatory. The student must feel comfortable in conducting multidisciplinary research that contemplates the areas of material science, engineering, and biology. Students from different backgrounds (engineering, biology, material science, or chemistry) are encouraged to apply.

Dr. Faria’s lab is located at the Department of Environmental Engineering Sciences at the University of Florida in Gainesville. By joining Dr. Faria’s research group, the student will benefit from a vibrant and young research group, where the candidate will have many opportunities to collaborate and learn new methods and techniques. NSF Research Traineeship (NRT) Climate Resilience Program

Auburn University seeks M.S. and Ph.D. students to apply for the newly funded $3M NSF Research Traineeship (NRT) Climate Resilience Program. Domestic/permanent resident graduate students applying to Auburn can apply for up to two years of project support ($34,500 stipend/yr and tuition/fees paid). Funding beyond the 2-years of NRT funding will be provided by the disciplinary degree program/department that Trainee is enrolled. Additionally, international students and students already supported by the university can apply as non-funded Trainees still benefiting from the innovative interdisciplinary project. We seek excellent students that want to help make our socio-environment, agriculture, ecosystem, and infrastructure more resilient to climate change related hazards through conducting interdisciplinary research working with and communicating to both stakeholders and the public. Programs associated with the NRT include the Departments of Geosciences, Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences, Rural Sociology, the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences, Biosystems Engineering, and the Earth System Science Ph.D. Program. Florida Stormwater Association Scholarships

We are pleased to announce the availability of stormwater scholarships from the Florida Stormwater Association Educational Foundation (FSAEF) in 2020. Please help us spread the word by sharing this information!

Graduate students studying water quality, stormwater management or stormwater finance at a Florida college or university are eligible to receive the scholarships.

The Florida Stormwater Association (FSA) is a non-profit, professional association of local governments, engineering and consulting firms, water management districts, and academic institutions that have an interest in stormwater management and finance. Its goals are to improve water quality and enhance the stormwater management profession in Florida. The FSA Educational Foundation is a parallel organization that supports FSA through stormwater research and the scholarship program.

DELORES AUZENNE DISSERTATION AWARD
The Delores Auzenne Dissertation Award, named in honor of Delores Auzenne, was established to assist underrepresented doctoral students with little or no funding to complete their dissertations. The program provides funding to Ph.D. candidates in the advanced stages of their dissertations. Students on fellowships or assistantship are not eligible. The award provides up to $15,000, and up to 5 credit hours of in-state tuition and fees. Successful applicants may receive funds over the course of Summer and the following Fall Semester or Spring Semester and the following Summer.
Deadline: Friday, March 20, 2020 by 5 p.m.

SUPPLEMENTAL RETENTION SCHOLARSHIP
The Supplemental Retention Scholarship is designed for UF doctoral students, who are three or fewer semesters away from graduation but are no longer eligible to receive a fellowship, assistantship or other funding from their department or college. It provides financial support for 3 credit hours in the Fall and Spring and 2 credit hours in the Summer of in-state-tuition and the help of a structured retention program under the UF Office of Graduate Diversity Initiatives (OGDI).

Fulbright Opportunity for Ph.D. Students in Agriculture

The Fulbright Commission in Uruguay is pleased to announce a three-month internship opportunity in 2020 for U.S. students pursuing Ph.D. degrees in viticulture, viniculture, agriculture or a related field. Sharon Fitz-Coy Memorial Award

Two $1,000 scholarships (one undergraduate and one graduate award) are available for UF students who are passionate about youth education and are pursuing careers in the natural sciences.

Sharon Fitz-Coy dedicated her life to family and community. She made lasting impacts on countless youth through the Fishing for Success program. Sharon’s family, friends and colleagues created this scholarship endowment to recognize and support students who demonstrate her passion for making a difference for youth in their communities.
