Open Ph.D. position at UF - ENVIRONMENTAL NANOTECHNOLOGY

Open Ph.D. position at Dr. Faria’s Research Group at the Department of Environmental Engineering Sciences at University of Florida (UF)

ENVIRONMENTAL NANOTECHNOLOGY

Currently, Dr. Faria is seeking a Ph.D. student to work in the area of environmental nanotechnology. The candidate will research the bioactivity of nanomaterials and their application as antimicrobial coatings. Such antimicrobial coatings can be used to prevent bacterial attachment and control biofilm formation in engineered surfaces, medical devices, and food packing, to name a few. The candidate must demonstrate interest or has previous experience working with nanomaterials. Background, theoretical or practical, in microbiology is preferred but not mandatory. The student must feel comfortable in conducting multidisciplinary research that contemplates the areas of material science, engineering, and biology. Students from different backgrounds (engineering, biology, material science, or chemistry) are encouraged to apply.

Dr. Faria’s lab is located at the Department of Environmental Engineering Sciences at the University of Florida in Gainesville. By joining Dr. Faria’s research group, the student will benefit from a vibrant and young research group, where the candidate will have many opportunities to collaborate and learn new methods and techniques. For more information about this opening, please contact Dr. Andreia Faria at andreia.faria@essie.ufl.edu. A CV, the undergrad transcripts, and two letters of recommendation will be needed if the candidate is interested in applying.

Requirements:
  • Hold a bachelor or a MSc. degree in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, agricultural science, material engineering or material science, biology, or related sciences
  • Be American or hold U.S. citizenship (due to funding restrictions)
  • Complete an UF application for admission and submit all supporting documents by the posted deadlines (see link for information - https://www.essie.ufl.edu/admissions/graduate-admissions/ )
