SNRE Research Symposium 4/22

The annual SNRE Research Symposium is coming up this Thursday, April 22 from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm. This event is free, virtual, and open to anyone, so please consider joining us!

In particular, check out our keynote presentation (April 22, 2-3 pm): Kaitlin Kovacs from the USGS Wetland and Aquatic Research Center (WARC) will present an overview of WARC science, the USAjobs platform, and some lessons learned throughout her own career as a federal science agency employee.

Bagel Brunch & Can Drive and T-Shirt Sale - hosted by the FSHN Club!-April 1st

The Food Science and Human Nutrition Club would like to invite you to our Bagel Brunch and Can Drive! In support of the Hitchcock Field and Fork Food Pantry, we will be holding a can drive event on April 1st, from 10am to noon, in the FSHN Courtyard.* This event is sponsored by Bagels and Noodles, and every person that donates cans at the event will be treated to a bagel brunch! If you would prefer to donate a monetary amount, or you forget to bring your cans, we will have a virtual donation platform available at the event. 

As we wrap up March and National Nutrition Month, we will also have a variety of Nutrition T-shirts for purchase. Proceeds will help to fund the FSHN Club and the Club's ability to support the UF and Gainesville community. The first 60 people to purchase a t-shirt will receive a $10 gift certificate to Zoe's Kitchen. This event is open to all students, faculty, and staff while supplies last. If you cannot attend the event and would like to inquire about a t-shirt, please email treasurer.fshn@gmail.com.

*Safety precautions will be taken in the form of face coverings, social distancing, and single-use utensils and individually packaged food items.

CWC Open House for students

 The Counseling & Wellness Center (CWC) is excited to announce two Virtual Open House opportunities coming up for students and staff! We encourage you to share this opportunity broadly with students and colleagues. 


Students and staff are encouraged to Zoom-in on September 14th or September 18th, anytime between 12:00 - 2:00 pm. CWC providers will highlight various services and resources available to support students and staff in attending to mental health (see attached schedule of presentation topics & times).

The Data Incubator's Summer 2020 Data Science Fellowship application is open!

Program: The Data Incubator is an intensive 8 week fellowship that prepares masters students, PhDs, and postdocs in STEM and social science fields seeking industry careers as data scientists. The program is free for Fellows and supported by sponsorships from hundreds of employers across multiple industries. In response to the overwhelming interest in our earlier sessions, we will be holding another fellowship.

Who Should Apply: Anyone who has already obtained a masters or PhD degree or who is within one year of graduating with a masters or PhD is welcome to apply. Applications from international students are welcome.

Apply for the SKY Happiness Retreat Scholarship - 3/27-3/29 Reitz Union

This retreat is a nationally acclaimed program conducted in over 40 universities in the US. Students who undertake the retreat, have found immense benefits in terms of increased energy and focus and reduced stress which directly translates to better performance in the university.

We are offering the retreat this semester with an 80% scholarship to all UF students.

UF Unity in Diversity is hosting its inaugural 5K Run, Walk & Roll in conjunction with the UF College of Medicine Celebration of Diversity Week and the UF Chief Diversity Officer.
The celebration of campus diversity is slated for Saturday, April 4, 2020. Registration/check-in starts at 6:30 a.m. The race starts at 7:30 a.m.

Farmer's Market Group Rides

The Farmer’s Market Group Rides are on the 2nd Wednesday of the month throughout the Fall 2019 Semester. This will be a casual group ride of approximately 3.5 miles round trip from Plaza of the Americas to the Downtown Gainesville Farmer’s Market and back. Each ride will be led by a trained professional who will be available to assist as needed.

  • Wednesday, September 18th, 4:30-6:30 pm: Eat the Weeds! Walk and talk (and nibble) your hidden foods underfoot, at the Field & Fork Farm by the bat houses, with Susan Marynowski. Read more HERE! 
  • Friday, September 20th, 5:30-7:30 pm: Haitian Cooking Demonstration and Tasting with the amazing Chef Thia, visiting us from Miami! At the Field & Fork Farm. There will be tastings of her delicious dish, tours of the Latin American plant collections by Patrick Hunt, and lots of plant give-aways (peppers for everyone! …while supplies last)! RSVP HERE!
  • Friday, October 25th, 4-6 pm: Field & Fork Fall Open House at the Field & Fork Farm. Save the Date to join us at the Farm and Gardens for food, games, tours, activities, prizes, and more!  More info coming soon.
