Science Bowl is an academic competition with high school participants from over 50 Florida counties. The competition encompasses questions from subjects of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math, Earth/Space Science, and Energy. Both the volunteer and committee base are composed of UF students who are interested in taking on the responsibility of fostering passion for the sciences in the younger generations. Volunteering with Science Bowl serves as a great opportunity for getting involved in an impactful, academic way.
Volunteers will help with the running of the competition the day of, and will be required to attend a couple training events in the weeks preceding the event. This year, the regional competition will be held on February 22, 2020. All volunteers will receive a free t-shirt, breakfast and lunch. Those that are interested can sign up here:

Packaging and Labeling Specialist - Volunteer Opportunity in Guyana
Packaging and Labeling Volunteer- Guyana (15 days in March or April)
Guyana Marketing Corporation (GMC) is responsible for the coordination and facilitation of the development of quality non-traditional agricultural produce and products. The areas of labeling and packaging continue to be a challenge for GMC. The purpose of this F2F assignment is to build the capacity of GMC’s staff and its clients (Agro-processors, Exporters) in packaging and labeling for fresh produce and processed products so that ultimately they can improve product presentation and increase sales and profitability. Throughout the assignment, the volunteer is requested to conduct 4 workshops for agro-processors and exporters on topics such as biodegradable packaging and to offer recommendations for label design software and printing equipment.
Our program covers all volunteer costs including airfare, lodging, meals, insurance, and any other assignment-related expenses.

Volunteers needed: Talk Science with me in Alachua County
Hello! Scientists and engineers of all types are invited to take part in our recurring Alachua County-area public outreach event in November 2016. No experience with public engagement is necessary.
What: "talk science with me" is a public engagement event where pairs of scientists meet the public in coffeehouses, bars, libraries, and even laundromats to have conversations.

First time participants will be asked to attend a 45-minute orientation Wednesday, November 9th, 3pm and 4:05 pm in Bryant 120

Who: especially folks who study the ocean, but anyone who does science* research for UF (faculty, grad students, postdocs, research scientists). You'll be paired with another scientist at the same venue.

Leadership & Service Opportunity
The Brown Center of Leadership and Service would like to present you and your students with a wonderful opportunity to serve the Gainesville community through our annual Summer Plunge Day of Service. Summer Plunge is a day when our volunteers branch out all over the Gainesville area to different organization sites to provide beneficial service to the community. Volunteers can participate in a variety of services that range from working with animals, working with the elderly, alleviating environmental issues and many more interesting activities. Please consider participating in this event and making a positive impact on the Gainesville community. The event will take place on July 23rd from 8am to 1pm.

Individuals seeking leadership opportunities can also sign up to be site leaders. Site leaders gain important leadership and facilitation experiences and are essential for the success of Summer Plunge! Training will be provided to include skills on volunteer motivation and reflection. This opportunity is open to undergraduate and graduate students, staff, faculty, and community members. Site leader applications are open from June 20th - July 4th.

The Clean Tech Competition needs volunteer judges like you!
The 2016 Clean Tech Competition is looking for volunteers to grade first round submissions from student teams. The Clean Tech Competition is a worldwide, research and design challenge for students ages 15-18. The competition is annual, always focusing on clean technology, and the challenge theme changes each year. The 2016 theme is “Making an Impact”.
In order to facilitate the competition, we are in need of scientists and engineers willing to dedicate their time to reading and scoring students papers. In their (5-15 page) papers, students will identify a problem with plastics, or the need for cheap, clean energy related problem anywhere in the world, explain the impacts, analyze the causes, and design a clean technology solution to “Make an Impact”. Student participants will use their knowledge of science, technology and engineering to develop their solutions.
We are also looking for judges (PhD or higher) who would want to come onboard the Adonia as we cruise from Miami, Florida to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; onboard will be the Final for the Clean Tech Competition as well as other exciting opportunities. More information about the first ever STEM Cruise can be found here.

· Online Process – This judging occurs entirely online. Submissions will be emailed to the judges, and scores will be submitted through an online rubric.
· Timeline – Judges will receive their assigned papers by March 25, 2016, and scoring forms will be due by April 1, 2016.
· Responsibility – Each judge should expect to receive 5 - 10 papers, though this will depend on the number of participating teams/judges.
· Qualifications – Judges must have a BS or BA in a field of science, technology, engineering, math, or agriculture or have at least two years of industry/research experience in the field. Judges cannot have any children or relatives competing in the competition.
We would greatly appreciate your support of this unique program for students. Anyone interested in volunteering as a first round judge for the Clean Tech Competition should fill out our online Judge Registration Form by March 18, 2016.
