MS & PhD positions at NC Ag & Tech State University

MS and PhD positions in Bioenvironmental Engineering The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Design at the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is looking for two highly motivated MS or PhD students to join a USDA funded project on the ecological engineering techniques for improvement of on-farm water quality. Applicants should have a B.S. or M.S. degree in Biological Engineering, Environmental engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline. The ideal candidate will have strong work ethic, prior research experience, familiarity to laboratory and field studies, knowledge of water quality analysis at the lab, and instrumentation. You will work with an interdisciplinary team of researchers. Fellowship Opportunity from Facebook

The Facebook Fellowship is a global program designed to encourage and support promising doctoral students who are engaged in innovative and relevant research in areas related to computer science and engineering at an accredited university.

The program is open to students in any year of their PhD study. People of diverse backgrounds and experiences are encouraged to apply, especially those from traditionally under-represented minority groups. Applications are evaluated based on the strength of the student’s research statement, publication record, and recommendation letters.

The Fellowship award includes:

Tuition and fees paid for the academic year (up to two years/four semesters)

Open Ph.D. position at UF - ENVIRONMENTAL NANOTECHNOLOGY

Open Ph.D. position at Dr. Faria’s Research Group at the Department of Environmental Engineering Sciences at University of Florida (UF)

ENVIRONMENTAL NANOTECHNOLOGY

Currently, Dr. Faria is seeking a Ph.D. student to work in the area of environmental nanotechnology. The candidate will research the bioactivity of nanomaterials and their application as antimicrobial coatings. Such antimicrobial coatings can be used to prevent bacterial attachment and control biofilm formation in engineered surfaces, medical devices, and food packing, to name a few. The candidate must demonstrate interest or has previous experience working with nanomaterials. Background, theoretical or practical, in microbiology is preferred but not mandatory. The student must feel comfortable in conducting multidisciplinary research that contemplates the areas of material science, engineering, and biology. Students from different backgrounds (engineering, biology, material science, or chemistry) are encouraged to apply.

Dr. Faria’s lab is located at the Department of Environmental Engineering Sciences at the University of Florida in Gainesville. By joining Dr. Faria’s research group, the student will benefit from a vibrant and young research group, where the candidate will have many opportunities to collaborate and learn new methods and techniques. Dr. Andreia Faria’s research group seeks a Ph.D. student to study the bioactivity of nanomaterials and their application as antimicrobial coatings using. NSF Research Traineeship (NRT) Climate Resilience Program

Auburn University seeks M.S. and Ph.D. students to apply for the newly funded $3M NSF Research Traineeship (NRT) Climate Resilience Program. Domestic/permanent resident graduate students applying to Auburn can apply for up to two years of project support ($34,500 stipend/yr and tuition/fees paid). Funding beyond the 2-years of NRT funding will be provided by the disciplinary degree program/department that Trainee is enrolled. Additionally, international students and students already supported by the university can apply as non-funded Trainees still benefiting from the innovative interdisciplinary project. We seek excellent students that want to help make our socio-environment, agriculture, ecosystem, and infrastructure more resilient to climate change related hazards through conducting interdisciplinary research working with and communicating to both stakeholders and the public. Fulbright Opportunity for Ph.D. Students in Agriculture

PhD position in Geomatics at UF (starts spring 2020)

The Geomatics Concentration at the University of Florida is seeking a PhD candidate who uses image processing and machine learning techniques in analyzing spatial information in coastal morphology and habitat characterization applications.

Eligibility: Suitable applicants should meet the following requirements:
- A master’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Geomatics, Mathematics, Agricultural Engineering, or other related analytical disciplines, which must be earned by December, 2019.
- Experience in computer programming, e.g. Python, Matlab, or R.
- Knowledge of remote sensing and GIS analysis software such as ENVI, eCognition, and ArcGIS.
- Interest in high spectral and spatial resolution image and point cloud data analysis and machine learning techniques. Experience preferred.
- Published peer-reviewed manuscripts in a recognized journal is strongly recommended but not required.

Fall Data Science Fellowship Opportunity

Program: The Data Incubator is an intensive 8 week fellowship that prepares masters students, PhDs, and postdocs in STEM and social science fields seeking industry careers as data scientists. The program is free for Fellows and supported by sponsorships from hundreds of employers across multiple industries. In response to the overwhelming interest in our earlier sessions, we will be holding another fellowship.

Who Should Apply: Anyone who has already obtained a masters or PhD degree or who is within one year of graduating with a masters or PhD is welcome to apply. Applications from international students are welcome. Everyone else is encouraged to sign-up for a future session.

Graduate Student Assistantship - Univ of Connecticut - Horticulture-Plant Science

Position: Ph.D. Assistantship

Start Date: Spring 2020

Field Of Study: Horticulture-Plant Science

Position description: A Graduate Research Assistantship is available for a Ph.D. student starting in Spring 2020 or sooner in the Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture at the University of Connecticut. The successful candidate will conduct applied research on water footprint of greenhouses crops. This research will allow close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of horticulturists, engineers, economists, social scientists, and commercial growers.

Requirements: A M.S. degree in Horticulture, Agricultural Engineer, or Biological Sciences-related discipline is required. Experience working in a research laboratory and/or greenhouse is preferred and skills in microbiology, plant nutrition greenhouse production, and irrigation are desirable. Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team are essential for the successful candidate.

The position will be ideal for a self-motivated individual interested. The student will be enrolled in a program towards obtaining a Ph.D. in Plant Science. The position will remain open until filled.

Summer Data Science Fellowship - Applications due April 22nd


We're looking for highly motivated, curious PhD and Masters students interested in careers in data 

Applications for our summer session are due April 22. This is the perfect cohort for PhD students who will defend this spring and Masters students who will finish their degrees in May. Past applicants have impressed us with their research and programming skills and we would greatly appreciate your help spreading the word to your current class.

What is The Data Incubator?
The Data Incubator is a tuition free, 8 week Fellowship, for Masters and PhD students aspiring to grow their programming and data analytics skills. We are seeking graduate students nearing the end of their program, with strong quantitative and research abilities. The program is also open to recent graduates of Masters and PhD programs.

Who should apply?

We accept applications from any Masters or PhD Student within a year of completing their studies can apply, but ideally applicants should be in their last semester of coursework or dissertation writing. We accept students from any major, all academic backgrounds can translate to data science.

What will students get out of The Data Incubator?
We work closely with students to help them compile a portfolio of data science work, including a capstone project that can be shared with potential employers.We assist in the job search as well - Past TDI graduates have gone on to work as data scientists at the New York Times, Capital One, Amazon, and many others.
