Hydrologist Position - Deadline 7/20/21

There is a Vacancy Opportunity for an Hydrologist GS-1315-13 in the Office of Food Safety (OFS), Division of Produce Safety (DPS), Fresh Produce Branch (FPB) located in College Park, MD. The announcement closes on 7/20/2021, or sooner if/when 100 applications are received.

Oklahoma Water Resources Center - Positions Available

 The Oklahoma Water Resources Center has several open positions that will be headquartered in Stillwater, OK and serve as an integral part of a new collaborative research effort between the Oklahoma State University-OWRC, USDA-Agricultural Research Services (ARS) and the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).  This new joint effort, titled Dam Analysis Modernization of Tools, Applications, Guidance and Standardization (DAM-TAGS), will develop engineering tools, design guidance documents, and computational software and applications for monitoring, inspecting and rehabilitation of aging dams.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
•Support the development, pursuit and delivery of planning projects associated with water resources, stormwater, and resilience.
• Collect, review, process, and manage data in support of hydrologic and hydraulic engineering analyses utilizing programs such as ArcGIS, Excel, and other hydrologic and hydraulic modeling platforms
• Prepare technical documents and reports under the supervision of an experienced engineer/professional
• Communicate with internal and external clients
Minimum Required Qualifications:
• BS or MS in Civil, Environmental, Ecological, Agricultural/Biological or related Engineering field from an accredited institution
• Certification as an Engineer Intern (pending or active)
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Excel, and GIS (preferred but not mandatory)
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills

• Strong sense of urgency to meet deadlines
• Detail-oriented team player with an ability to contribute to a positive work environment

Summer Program Counselor Positions

The University of Florida Center for Precollegiate Education and Training (UF CPET) is currently looking for friendly and competent Summer Counselors to join our team. If you are a compassionate and self-motivated individual with an interest in STEM education, we urge you to apply!

This year, all UF CPET summer programs will be delivered online. Most work in this position can be remote but may require some hours at the office to prepare for the program(s). All counselors are provided with training and professional staff support.

We are currently hiring for the following Summer Counselor positions:
• Global Health Institute (June 20-24, plus additional days/times TBD for training and prep)
• Research Immersion in Science (July 1-22, tentative)
• Climate Change Resiliency Program (June 1-30, tentative)

Responsibilities vary by program, but may include:
• Assist instructors prepare and deliver lesson plans and activities
• Track student attendance and class schedules
• Monitor students on virtual video conferencing and online course management platforms
• Check and address online platforms for issues, questions, or concerns as they arise
• Assist instructors with preparing science kits and uploading lessons/information into Canvas.
• Assist with leading discussions in video conference break-out rooms with smaller groups of students
• Additional responsibilities as assigned

Requirements:
• Familiarity with Canvas or other online course management system preferred
• Familiarity with Zoom or another video conferencing tool preferred
• Experience with data entry and using spreadsheets
• Enthusiastic about STEM education and working with youth
• Available to work flexible work hours - we operate full days during summer weeks. Please indicate your availability while applying.

ABE Alumnus Hanxi Bao has alerted us that NBCUniversal is currently expanding the capacity in media planning. A Senior Data Scientist: Optimization position is recently opened and I think it can be a good opportunity for my colleagues.

Position Announcement – Senior Scientist

The National Cotton Council (NCC) of America, the central organization of the U.S. cotton industry, has an opening for a senior-level agricultural scientist with a Doctor of Philosophy in Agricultural Sciences, preferably Agricultural Engineering or Agronomy. Strong knowledge of agricultural sustainability systems is highly preferred, along with an understanding of crop production practices. Scientific knowledge related to air quality, water management, and sustainability metrics/reporting are integral to the position.

Successful candidates must have strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as effective presentation skills in front of diverse audiences. Excellent organization skills are necessary as the position requires managing and prioritizing numerous concurrent projects often with tight deadlines. In addition, the ability to effectively function as part of a team and foster collaboration both within the Council and across other organizations are essential.

The Senior Scientist position will be a member of the NCC’s Technical Services Department and report to the Vice President of Technical Services. A minimum of five years’ experience is preferred, and frequent travel is necessary.

Overall responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Assisting, as needed, with Technical Service Department planning, execution, and participation in meetings such as the NCC’s Annual Meeting, NCC’s Beltwide Cotton Conferences, and others as identified.

2. Becoming a visible participant/leader in national conversations on topics such as climate change, sustainability, carbon credits, water management/quality, and air quality as it relates to cotton production systems.

3. Providing technical support to the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol and other sustainability initiatives.

4. Building and maintaining positive relationships with federal agencies, particularly in the areas of air quality, carbon sequestration, water management/quality, and relevant scientific projects.

5. Monitoring regulatory activities related to air quality, carbon sequestration, water quality and management and provide education input as needed.

6. Maintaining appreciation for U.S. cotton industry members with consideration how any actions may impact their operation.
