ABE Robotics Team wins ASABE Award!

 Congratulations to the ABE Robotics Team which won the 'Best Written Report Award' for ASABE.

The members of the team are Bryce Askey, Congliang Zhou, Robert Herring, Xue Zhou, Ruoyao Qin, Songzi Wu and Chi Zhang. The team’s advisors are Dr. Ampatzidis and Dr. Lee.

ABE student wins KK Barnes Competition at AIM!

 Congratulations to Juan Daniel Cornu Sanchez for winning 1st place in the KK Barnes Competition at AIM. 

The title of his research was "Establishing a Method for Investigating Microbial Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) Production from Anaerobic Digestion Biproducts and his advisor was Dr. Ana Martin Ryals.

Presidential Service Award application is open

The Brown Center for Leadership & Service would like to announce the Presidential Service Award application is open, and closes March 7th. We would like your support in sharing this opportunity with all students who will be graduating in 2021.  

 

The Presidential Service Award recognizes graduating undergraduate and graduate students who dedicate themselves to promoting social justice, community awareness, and civic engagement on campus and in the community. This award gives the University a chance to acknowledge students who made outstanding efforts in the areas mentioned above, many of which often go unrecognized and unrewarded. Additionally, the Faculty and Staff Advocate of the Year is a special Presidential Service Award that recognizes UF faculty or staff who have gone above and beyond in promoting UF students to pursue Service and leadership opportunities in the community.   

 

The application is currently open and will close on March 7, 2021, at 11:59 pm. If selected, each recipient will be invited to attend the formal ceremony on April 7 from 5:30 pm- 7:00 pm. At the ceremony, recipients will be recognized by President Fuchs you’re their dedication to serving the Gator Good.

L’Oréal USA For Women in Science fellowship program

 

Applications for the 2021 L’Oréal USA For Women in Science program are now open and will close on Friday, January 29, 2021. The L’Oréal USA For Women in Science fellowship program honors female scientists at a critical stage in their careers with grants of $60,000 each. Since 2003, we’ve awarded 85 postdoctoral women scientists over $4 million in grants.


We’re seeking five exceptional female scientists looking to advance their research and serve as role models for the next generation of girls in STEM.
 
Candidates are selected from a variety of fields including the life and physical/material sciences, technology (including computer science), engineering, and mathematics. Candidates must have completed their PhD and have started in their postdoctoral position by the application deadline.

Mentoring Award - applications due by November 1.

Dear Current (and recently graduated) ABE Graduate Students,

Thank you for mentoring! Your time and effort mentoring others make a difference!

The ABE Department appreciates mentors and has established a departmental award for graduate students to recognize individuals who stand out in service for mentoring others.

Mentoring others can have a huge impact on not only the mentor but for the mentee. If you have served or are serving as a mentor, consider applying for this award. Eligibility criteria include:
The applicant is a current or recent ABE graduate student
The applicant has provided or currently provides peer-to-peer mentoring of graduate students, mentoring of undergraduate students, and/or mentoring in a K-12 classroom (working with K-12 students and/or teachers)

The UF Graduate School also has an award program for Mentors. Graduate School Mentoring Award Our own Yulin “Patrick” Zheng was the award recipient in Spring 2020. Read Patrick’s mentoring philosophy here and consider applying for this award too! Their deadline is in the Spring, but is not announced yet.

ABE Grad Students - Apply for the McNair Bostick Departmental Scholarship!! Deadline 10/15

 McNair Bostick Scholarship

  • For Ph.D. graduate students in the UF/IFAS ABE department who are working on modeling and analysis of Agricultural and Natural Resources Systems. This $500 scholarship is awarded on the basis of scholarship, leadership in the university/community, dedication to her/his career, and high-quality research related to the sustainable management of agricultural and natural resources. Scholarship applications are due October 15th and recipients are selected for the Spring semester.

Campbell Travel Scholarship - Deadline 5/30


The Ken and Cindy Campbell travel scholarship is now open for applications.  See information below for award details.

Ken and Cindy Campbell Graduate Student Travel Scholarship 2020 -Deadline May 30th.
Graduate students are encouraged to apply for the Ken and Cindy Campbell Graduate Scholarships.

This scholarship was established in 2015 by Ken and Cindy Campbell to support graduate students researching water-related issues in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at the University of Florida/IFAS.

Scholarships of up to $1250 will be awarded in support of expenses related to travel for research projects, competitions, and/or participation in a competitive unpaid internship or workshop. Travel must occur by the end of year 2021.

CALS 2020-2021 Graduate Scholarship and Awards Applications are Available Online

Scholarships

The College of Agricultural and Life Sciences graduate scholarship application is now available online. CALS awarded $174,200 to 71 graduate students for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Apply by April 1 at http://cals.ufl.edu/scholarships.

Students should be prepared to provide the following:
abstract of your academic research or master’s project (2,000 character limit),
a brief statement about your career plans (3,500 character limit),
a pdf of your curriculum vitae/resume, and
the names and email addresses of two individuals who will provide letters of reference.

Each spring, CALS recognizes outstanding students at its Scholarship and Leadership Awards Banquet (April 16, 2020).

ABE Department Scholarship (McNair Bostick) - Deadline 11/15/2019. Apply today!!!

Ph.D. graduate students in the UF ABE Department who are working on modeling and analysis of Agricultural and Natural Resources Systems may apply for the McNair Bostick departmental scholarship. We have extended the deadline until November 15th.

GRADUATE SCHOOL DOCTORAL RESEARCH TRAVEL AWARD
This award provides research-related travel expenses for UF PhD students in selected majors in the humanities, arts, and social sciences, so they can effectively conduct doctoral dissertation research away from UF if department departmental funding is inadequate. Students appointed on state-funded fellowships or assistantships are not eligible. The award provides up to $15,000 and up to five credit hours of tuition assistance. 2019 AAW Madelyn Lockhart Dissertation Fellowship Applications Now Open

The Association for Academic Women (AAW) at the University of Florida established the Madelyn Lockhart Fellowship to honor a PhD candidate who is both an outstanding researcher and who has contributed to creating a more inclusive and diverse community. One Fellowship in the amount of up to $2,000 will be awarded annually to assist in the dissertation phase of the doctoral degree.


A nomination can come from a faculty member or from the candidate and the candidate can be from any PhD program.
The application and instructions for the applicants, academic units, and colleges are located at the following website (click link): Lockhart Fellowship.

We ask that applicants submit their completed applications to their respective departments/colleges by December 21, 2018 so that the deadline is consistent for all applicants across campus.

The final applications will be reviewed by the AAW panel and the winner will be notified by mid-February. The award will be presented at the Annual Women’s History Month Celebration, typically held in March.
