iDigTRIO Biological Sciences Conference-Call for posters!

In collaboration with iDigBio, TRIO programs at UF, Student Support Services and Ronald E. McNair Scholars are launching the 3rd Annual iDigTRIO Biological Sciences Conference to be held virtually on February 11-13, 2021. Created in 2019, iDigTRIO is a national conference connecting first-generation, limited-income, and/or underrepresented students to information about careers and graduate school research opportunities in the biological sciences.

This is a call for applications for undergraduate and graduate student posters for our conference. Proposals will be accepted on a rolling basis with a priority deadline of January 11, 2021. Deloitte Consulting "Start Up UF" Innovation Challenge

Improve your campus with an innovative idea 

Deloitte Consulting is kicking off StartUp UF this Spring! StartUp UF is a competition that will allow students to propose a new technology-related solution to improve campus. Through the course of two days, students will work on developing the pitch for their technology solution with the help of Deloitte professionals with experience in start-up concepts and bringing new products to market. StartUp UF will give students the opportunity to learn start-up concepts while networking with Deloitte leadership.

Don’t have an idea? Students who want to participate can sign up with an idea or without an idea! Student who do not submit an idea will be placed into teams and paired with students that did submit an approved idea. Additionally, students can sign up as teams or sign up as an individual. Students that sign up as an individual will be placed into teams.

Eligibility Requirements to Participate:

• Any undergraduate student who will complete a Bachelor’s Degree between December 2020 and August 2023
• Strong academic track record (minimum GPA of 3.2)
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future, and ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance

UF Plant Science Symposium

There is one week left to submit an abstract for the poster competition at this year's Plant Science Symposium. Participation is free, open to students of all disciplines, and 1st through 4th place winners will recieve $250-$100 in monetary prizes. While this year's symposium theme is "Big Data in Plant Science", we welcome all posters related to plant science or related fields. Registration for general attendance can be found here.

UF Elegance of Science art competition

The Elegance of Science art competition is now accepting entries and is open to University of Florida students, faculty and staff. Submit your two-dimensional research images or photos that incorporate scientific tools or concepts for an opportunity to win cash prizes.

The contest is organized by the Florida Museum of Natural History and the UF Marston Science Library. Submissions are due Jan. 12, 2020. For contest rules or to view past winners, visit www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/eos

ABE 3MT+2V contest, Thurs., Oct. 3, 3 pm- Come support our grad students!

It’s almost time for the 3MT+ V event!!  Come out and support our ABE graduate students tomorrow, Thursday, Oct 3rd at 3 pm in room FR 129! 3MT+V consists of both 3 minute thesis presentations and 2 minute research video abstracts. Students will be judged and are competing for cash prizes!

There will be light refreshments in the atrium while scores are being tallied and then we will announce the winners.

This is a fun event to watch! Don’t miss it!  Let’s fill the room and show support for our amazing students!

Global Culture Photo Competition 2019, Deadline 10/18/19

The University of Florida International Center (UFIC) invites students, faculty, staff and alumni to enter its annual international photography contest. All photographs must portray the theme "Global Culture". Each entrant may submit up to two digital photos in only one chosen category.

Theme: All photographs must portray the theme "Global Culture". Inspiration may come from  landscapes and cityscapes that impressed you, daily life scenes with unique perspectives, exciting cultural activities, a showcase of your major/discipline abroad, newsworthy matters you observed firsthand, moments that changed your worldview or your experiences leaving a positive mark in service, teaching or learning. Showing your Global Gator spirit is always a plus, so remember to wear the UF logo, orange and blue or the gator emblem!

Deadlines: All entries must be received electronically no later than October 18, 2019 at 12 midnight. Winners will be notified by November 1^st, 2019.

Awards: Judges will award a 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd place in each of three categories. 1^st prize winners will each receive $100, 2^nd prize winners will receive $50, 3^rd prize winners will receive $25. Total prizes to be awarded: $525. UFIC reserves the right to modify the contest awards in accordance to UF policies and regulations. Please allow 6-8 weeks for payments to be processed.

Submit Abstracts by 10/20 for 2019 UF Diversity Graduate Research Symposium (10/30/19)

The University of Florida Black Graduate Student Organization pleased to announce the 3rd Annual Diversity Graduate Research Symposium on Wednesday, October 30th, 2019 in the Florida Gym.

The Diversity Graduate Research Symposium will include oral and poster presentations from graduate students at the University of Florida, as well as a keynote speaker addressing the importance of diversity in research. The event will be interdisciplinary encompassing biological sciences, social sciences, humanities, computer science, engineering, math, and physical sciences. The goal of this symposium is to showcase the outstanding quality and diversity of graduate-level research at the University of Florida, in addition to providing students with the opportunity to enhance their communication skills with those outside of their discipline. Therefore, we welcome any research in progress, completed or previously presented research. Presentations will be judged by post-doctoral trainees and faculty. Prizes will be awarded to presentation winners and there will also be a raffle for attendees. This event is open to everyone that registers.

Graduate students can submit original research abstracts (3000-character limit, ~500 words) by clicking the link below. The deadline to submit abstracts is Sunday, October 20th, 2019. Work presented at previous national/local conferences are allowed.
