NCU Assistant Professor in Water Resources Engineering

Position Description The successful candidate will establish a nationally recognized basic
research program that quantifies the impacts of climate change on agricultural water supply,
and crop water consumptive use in humid regions such as the southeastern United States. It
is envisioned that this faculty member will use remote sensing, including satellite and other
platforms, and physics-based approaches and tools to quantify and solve water-related issues
from field to watershed scale. Tools may include real-time sensing systems to relate crop
attributes to crop yields and to guide water management, with the goal of reducing negative
environmental impacts and maximizing water use efficiency. The faculty member will teach
a graduate level course in water management or atmospheric/environmental remote sensing,
and an undergraduate course.

Qualifications Ph.D. in Biological/Agricultural Engineering or Civil/Environmental Engineering
or closely related field is required. Knowledge of agricultural systems is desirable. Registration
as a Professional Engineer or qualification for licensure as a Professional Engineer is desirable.
 
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, and Education Post-doctoral experience preferred
with evidence of grant proposal writing and publication of results in appropriate journals.

Other Work/Responsibilities The faculty member will coordinate efforts in research, teaching,
and outreach to fully serve the State of North Carolina and the academic mission of
the University. Research responsibilities include securing of extramural funds, and graduate
student recruitment and mentoring. The successful candidate will contribute to the undergraduate
and graduate training programs in BAE by teaching existing courses and developing new
courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Undergraduate advising is also expected.
