UF Data Science and Informatics Symposium - Saturday March 18th

Have you ever wondered how Netflix writes algorithms that understand what you’ll want to watch? Have you ever considered how Nate Silver predicts the outcomes of elections? Have you ever seen an incredibly cool data visualization that communicated far more than words or numbers alone? Do the terms big data, data science, machine learning, or predictive analytics excite you? Do you have no clue what we’re talking about but want to learn anyway?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, UF DSI, the Data Science and Informatics Student organization here at UF, is here to help you deepen your knowledge and immerse you in the UF Data Science community.

You are invited to UF DSI’s annual Spring Symposium of UF DSI. The Symposium will take place this Saturday, from 9:45AM to 4:00PM at the Reitz Union Grand Ballroom.

Our Keynote Speaker, Jack Kendall, is a UF graduate who majored in Physics and Chemical Engineering. He is the founder of PlasmaChip, a company based in the Innovation Hub that focuses on developing neuromorphic hardware (modeled after the brain) that can perform machine learning algorithms.

We will have three rounds of speakers on topics including remote sensing data, election predictions, data visualization on student data, bioinformatics, and network theory.

We will also have two rounds of workshops, so you can learn about the key tools utilized in data analytics, including programming in Python and R, data visualization with Tableau, and fundamentals of machine learning.

In order to fully participate in the workshops, you should bring a laptop to code along with the instructors.

Breakfast and lunch (Panda Express!) will be served. Dress is casual. You are not required to attend the entire event, but can come and go as you please. We request that you RSVP at the following link: https://goo.gl/forms/cPtuZubrO0UtO7fJ3
