Trellis Fund Fellowship Opportunity
Graduate students are invited to apply for a fellowship with short-term international research projects as part of the Trellis Fund. The Trellis Fund connects organizations in developing countries with U.S. graduate students who have agricultural expertise, generating benefits for both the students and the in-country institutions. Together, they collaborate to address horticultural challenges faced by local farmers within the areas of: Post-harvest management; Fruit and vegetable processing; Crop production, including vegetables, kiwi fruit or tropical plants; Pest, disease and weed management; Soil management, including mulching, composting, biochar, soil tests; Small-scale irrigation; Agricultural marketing; Experimental field designs; Economic analysis; and Accounting and business skills. Fifteen Trellis Fund fellowships are available for 2018 to work with partner institutions in Ethiopia, Ghana, Nepal, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. Selected students will work remotely with an organization as consultants on projects for a minimum of 100 hours for six month project and also travel for approximately 2- 3 weeks for in-country work. Students will be provided airfare; reimbursement travel expenses and a $300 fellowship upon completion. Check out this short video explaining the Trellis Fund opportunity. Applications are due 11:59 p.m. EST on October 27 with decision announcements in early December. UF is one of four partner institutions from the Horticulture Innovation Lab eligible to have students apply and participate in the Trellis Fund Project.
