Fall Data Science Fellowship Opportunity

Program: The Data Incubator is an intensive 8 week fellowship that prepares masters students, PhDs, and postdocs in STEM and social science fields seeking industry careers as data scientists. The program is free for Fellows and supported by sponsorships from hundreds of employers across multiple industries. In response to the overwhelming interest in our earlier sessions, we will be holding another fellowship.

Who Should Apply: Anyone who has already obtained a masters or PhD degree or who is within one year of graduating with a masters or PhD is welcome to apply. Applications from international students are welcome. Everyone else is encouraged to sign-up for a future session.

Dates: All sections will be from 2019-09-16 to 2019-11-08.

MPower Financing Women in STEM Scholarships (deadline = July 15)

The MPOWER Women in STEM Scholarship Program is open to any international or DACA student (at the undergraduate or graduate level) accepted or enrolled in a full-time program in any field of STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology, or Math) at any of the 350+ universities we support in the USA and Canada (including yours!). Awards are up to $5,000, there is no requirement to be an MPOWER borrower, and only a short essay is required!

If you’re wondering why our focus is on international and DACA students, that’s because we are a social benefit corporation dedicated to removing financial barriers for international and DACA students. There are already many scholarships for domestic female students in STEM, but very few for international and DACA students.

Postdoctoral Research Associate Position-OSU

The BioSystems Analysis Lab (BSAL) in the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering at The Ohio State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate (postdoc) position in bioprocess/systems engineering. The successful candidate will be involved in projects related to: 1) process/techno-economic/life cycle modeling of biobased systems, and 2) lignocellulosic biomass preprocessing through mechanical, chemical and thermal means. The postdoc is expected to publish research findings in international peer-reviewed journals, present research findings in conferences/meetings, generate regular update reports, assist in grant proposal writing, supervise BSAL graduate and undergraduate students, and assist with other research activities, as needed.

 Qualifications:
A Ph.D. degree in Agricultural, Biosystems, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or the other related disciplines is needed. Experience in biomass handling and preprocessing, process modeling, techno-economic analysis, and life cycle assessment (LCA) is needed. Familiarity with one or more process modeling and/or LCA software is preferred. Familiarity with U.S. agricultural production systems is desirable. Other desirable qualities include the ability to learn/adopt skills and knowledge in solving “real-world” problems, creative and independent research abilities with a team-work perspective, and strong oral and written communication skills.

Salary will be commensurate with experience, and benefits will be as per the Ohio State University policies.
