2015 Board of Education (BOE) Summer Fellowship Program, June 24, 2015-August 7, 2015
The BOE Summer Fellowship Program is open to US citizens or permanent residents who are newly accepted into a UF doctoral program and are underrepresented in their field of study, first generation, low-income status or ethnic or cultural minority. Applications will be accepted April 1st thru May 1st,
2015.
This six-week summer program is designed as an orientation to graduate education and promotes acclimation to the University of Florida. The goal of this program is to provide newly enrolled doctoral students with the groundwork for their graduate education by: (1) supplementing the student’s knowledge of the research process; (2) honing their research writing skills and (3) easing the transition into graduate level studies at the University of Florida.
Student receive:
· $3500 stipend to help with the transition to Gainesville
· Four credit hours of paid coursework in their respective departments
· $100 Gator Dining card for peer mentoring meetings
· Solid support system in the Office of Graduate Minority Programs

2015-16 NASA Florida Space Grant Opportunities
The NASA Florida Space Grant Consortium (FSGC) is pleased to announce two new opportunities for graduate students and faculty, namely the Dissertation and Thesis Improvement Fellowship and the FSGC and Kennedy Space Center Technology Development and Commercialization Program.
1. Dissertation and Thesis Improvement Fellowship
The NASA Florida Space Grant Consortium (FSGC) plans to award Master's Thesis and Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Fellowships in areas of space science and engineering. These grants provide partial support of Master's Thesis and Doctoral Dissertation research for improvement beyond the already existing project. The duration cannot be more than 1 year and the maximum fellowship amount is $5000. The fellowship funds cannot be used for stipends. The fellowships are open to US citizens only. Permanent residents are not eligible.

2. FSGC and NASA Kennedy Space Center Technology Development and Commercialization Program FSGC and the KSC Technology Transfer Office (TTO) have partnered to establish this pilot program. This program seeks to provide Florida universities with a competitive opportunity to further develop KSC patented technologies for potential commercial applications and for NASA space applications if the specific technology has "dual use" potential.
To initiate the pilot, FSGC and the KSC TTO worked collaboratively to identify two early stage KSC patented technologies that fit the profile for this program. These projects are
(a) High Performance Polyimide Powder Coatings
(b) Ammonia Recovery System for Wastewater
The maximum award amount for each project is $25,000

Irrigation/ water Resources Engineering Faculty POSITION-University of California, Davis
Irrigation/Water Resources Engineer, Assistant Professor (9-month tenure track). The candidate will hold an appointment in the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering and address research on water application technology, water-use efficiency and development of alternative supplies for irrigated agriculture that ultimately consider its sustainability in the face of increasing environmental impacts and water shortages. This position will consider at a holistic, or systems modeling level, developing 'reclaimed' or 'recycled' waters for irrigation, precision application of water for crop production, the associated impacts on 'downstream' (i.e. soil-water, groundwater and other surface waters) water quality and associated energy usage, environmental implications and efficient resource utilization. The successful applicant will assist with lower and upper division undergraduate teaching in engineering and technology, and develop graduate level course work in their research area. Candidates must have a strong documented engineering background with a PhD in engineering or a BS in engineering with a PhD in a scientific field. They must have the ability to conduct both independent and cooperative research, and the ability to teach engineering courses to undergraduate and graduate students, with special reference to water and irrigation engineering. Amazon Info Session on April 21st
Amazon is having one final information session for the school year on Tuesday, April 21st. Amazon is greatly ramping up their entry level hiring and are turning to UF to support it. They are actively recruiting for their full-time Area Manager role who will work in their Operations Field. They are interested in engineers across all departments.

Fulbright Days during April 2015
To increase awareness about Fulbright programs, the UF International Center will celebrate Fulbright Days 2015 during the month of April in collaboration with UF Honors, UF Graduate School and the UF Fulbright Lectures Faculty.
Sponsored by the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Fulbright Program provides funding for students, scholars, teachers, and professionals to undertake graduate study, advanced research, university teaching, and teaching in elementary andsecondary schools.
Multiple information sessions are planned to learn about the application process and to listen to the experiences of past Fulbright scholars and students. Two Institute of International Education (IIE) representatives, Athena Fulay (Sr. Program Manager, U.S. Scholar Programs) and Lora Seery (Program Manager, U.S. Student Programs) will be on campus for Fulbright workshops and individual consultations.
