The College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, Collegiate Farm Bureau and Gator Wesley Foundation have partnered with HungerU, Farm Journal Foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, DuPont, War on Hunger, and Stop Hunger Now to host a meal packaging event!

Join us on November 19, 2015 from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm to help package 20,000 plus meals which will be used to support development programs and save lives in developing countries as well as domestically.

The event will take place at the Straughn Center located at 2142 Shealy Drive, Gainesville, FL 32611 (across from the Vet School). Please bring a cap to wear while packaging food. If you do not have a cap a hair net will be provided for you. Parking restrictions will be lifted in the Straughn Center lot on the day of the event- however carpooling is encouraged.

NCU Assistant Professor in Water Resources Engineering

Position Description The successful candidate will establish a nationally recognized basic
research program that quantifies the impacts of climate change on agricultural water supply,
and crop water consumptive use in humid regions such as the southeastern United States. It
is envisioned that this faculty member will use remote sensing, including satellite and other
platforms, and physics-based approaches and tools to quantify and solve water-related issues
from field to watershed scale. Tools may include real-time sensing systems to relate crop
attributes to crop yields and to guide water management, with the goal of reducing negative
environmental impacts and maximizing water use efficiency. The faculty member will teach
a graduate level course in water management or atmospheric/environmental remote sensing,
and an undergraduate course.

Qualifications Ph.D. in Biological/Agricultural Engineering or Civil/Environmental Engineering
or closely related field is required. Knowledge of agricultural systems is desirable. Registration
as a Professional Engineer or qualification for licensure as a Professional Engineer is desirable.
 
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, and Education Post-doctoral experience preferred
with evidence of grant proposal writing and publication of results in appropriate journals.

Other Work/Responsibilities The faculty member will coordinate efforts in research, teaching,
and outreach to fully serve the State of North Carolina and the academic mission of
the University. Research responsibilities include securing of extramural funds, and graduate
student recruitment and mentoring. The successful candidate will contribute to the undergraduate
and graduate training programs in BAE by teaching existing courses and developing new
courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Undergraduate advising is also expected.

Annual Salary $ 24,500 (FTE .50 ‐ 20 hours/week)
Assistantship includes tuition waiver and up to 3‐years’ commitment
PhD graduate research assistantships (03) available as early as Spring term 2016 (January 1) through a joint collaboration of the Agronomy and Soil and Water Science Departments. Agroecology is a diverse, interdisciplinary program with a core curriculum of crop, soil and water science courses that emphasize sustainability, resource management, valuation of ecosystem services, system productivity, and profitability. This project will focus on water scarcity management in diverse agroecosystems. The three available positions will cover water use in forage systems, plant‐soil‐water interactions, and crop physiological responses under water stress.

These three graduate research assistantships are supported by the USDA/NIFA – NNF program. Candidates must be citizens or nationals of the United States of America. Selected Graduate Assistants will be required to develop a study abroad program for six months, also funded by the project.

 Minimum Background:

∙ Meet UF Admissions criteria for admission without conditions
∙ MS degree in Agronomy, Soil Science, Water Sciences, or related field with GPA of 3.5
∙ Thesis degree or published refereed journal articles
∙ GRE Quantitative score 160
∙ US Citizen or Nationals (as required by the funding source.)
