Volunteers needed for Social Anxiety study at UF

My name is Brian Zaboski, and I am a graduate student in the College of Education at the University of Florida. I am currently conducting a study for my dissertation on treatments for social anxiety disorder on a college campus and I am seeking volunteers.

If you are experiencing social anxiety (fear or avoidance of social situations, or anxiety about how other people may evaluate you) and Between the ages of 18 and 30 then this study may be right for you.

In this study you will be randomly assigned to either 1) an established therapy group for the treatment of social anxiety after all procedures have been described and you are agreeable to the experience or 2) an alternative treatment offering education about social anxiety disorder with the option to receive group exposure therapy after a waiting period of approximately 8 weeks.

Treatment is completely free. No matter which group you are in, we will meet once per week for 2 hours. There will be a total of 6 sessions. Sessions will take place on the University of Florida campus.

Thank you for your time! If you are interested, please follow this link: https://redcap.ctsi.ufl.edu/redcap/surveys/?s=H4DAC7CL9Y. Remember, study participation is voluntary. If you follow the link, you will have the opportunity to read the consent form and decide if you would like to participate or not. If you consent to participate, you will be asked to complete a demographics form and a brief social anxiety questionnaire. If you are selected for the study, Brian Zaboski, a doctoral candidate at UF, will follow up with you via email or phone about the next steps.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at bzaboski@ufl.edu or my dissertation committee chair, Diana Joyce-Beaulieu, at djoyce@coe.ufl.edu.

LIMITED FUNDING OPPORTUNITY: NCI Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Fellow Transition Award (F99/K00) - Internal LOIs due by 1/3/2017

The objective of the NCI Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Fellow Transition Award (F99/K00) is to encourage outstanding, late-stage graduate students with a demonstrated potential and interest in pursuing careers as independent researchers by facilitating the successful transition to their postdoctoral positions.

The F99/K00 award is intended for individuals who require 1-2 years to complete their Ph.D. dissertation research training (F99 phase) before transitioning to mentored postdoctoral research training (K00 phase). Consequently, applicants are expected to propose an individualized research training plan for the next 1-2 years of dissertation research training and a plan for 3-4 years of mentored postdoctoral research and career development activities that will prepare them for independent cancer-focused research careers.

The F99/K00 award is meant to provide up to 6 years of support in two phases. The initial (F99) phase will provide support for 1-2 years of dissertation research (final experiments, dissertation preparation, and selection of a postdoctoral mentor). The transition (K00) phase will provide up to 4 years of mentored postdoctoral research career development support, contingent upon successful completion of the doctoral degree requirements and securing a postdoctoral position for further research training and career development leading to research independence. The two award phases are intended to be continuous in time. A K00 award will be made only to a PD/PI who has successfully completed the F99-supported training, secured a postdoctoral appointment, and provided NCI with a strong research and career development plan.

UF may submit only one application for this RFA.

Interested applicants should submit an internal Letter of Intent (LOI; click here for guidelines) to UFHCC Attn: Wendy Malorzo (wmalorzo@ufl.edu), by Jan 3, 2017 for internal coordination.

Letters of intent are due by Jan 18, 2017 and applications are due at NIH by Feb 18, 2017.

Please email Dr. Michele McGuirl, Program Director, NCI Cancer Training Branch (mcguirlma@mail.nih.gov) to ask questions or to add your name to the F99/K00 email list.
