Position Focus: Development of scenarios for reaching Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy Goals across Iowa. The candidate should have knowledge and/or experience in soil and water quality assessment including monitoring and modeling and a background in utilizing GIS.
Position Responsibilities: The Postdoctoral Associate will review and update practice performance for reducing nitrogen and phosphorus loads from agricultural lands. The individual in this position will incorporate best management practice information into the development of nutrient reduction scenarios for various watersheds across Iowa accounting for the maximum level of implementation that could be achieved with the various practices. This scenario development will also assess the cost effectiveness of various options. This work will utilize the Agricultural Conservation Planning Framework (ACPF) tool for assessing practice implementation. As part of this work there would be a review of tools or approaches that can be used in evaluating potential load reductions.

Summer A 2017 - WIS 6934 Next Generation Data Management in Movement Ecology (2 credits) Taught May 8-12 @ UF/IFAS Fort Lauderdale REC, Davie, FL

Recent technological progress has allowed ecologists to obtain a huge amount and diversity of animal movement data sets of increasing spatial and temporal resolution and size, together with complex associated information related to the environmental context, such as habitat types based on remote sensing, population density, and weather. Based on several years of experiences on multiple species, this intensive five-day workshop is designed to teach participants how to handle, manage, store and retrieve movement data in a spatial database, and how to eventually feed them to analysis tools.

UF WiSE: “Uncovering the Hidden Figures”, Black Women in STEM Fields, 2/28, 12 noon
To celebrate Black History Month, WiSE's theme for the month of February is “Uncovering the Hidden Figures”. We will discuss the major contributions of black women in STEM fields and shed light on the historical and current impact of black women scientists. Despite having to overcome significant discrimination in the workforce, black women scientists have played a vital role in the advancement of STEM. By highlighting the historical and current impacts of black women in STEM we hope to appreciate the importance of striving for continued progress of diversity in the science workforce.

We are excited to host this month's guest speaker Dr. Hazel Levy. Dr. Levy received an MS in Entomology and Nematology, as well as a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Florida. She was also the recipient of an NIH fellowship as a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Levy is now a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics. She is one of the first African- American women to have her own research lab at UF College of Medicine. Her research interests include Molecular Biology and Gene Therapy Vector Development.

Cornell - Postdoctoral Research Associate
The New York State Water Resources Institute (WRI) in the Department of Biological and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University is inviting applications for a position in the field of water resource science & management. We are looking for an individual with a PhD in environmental engineering, hydrology, land use planning, geography or related fields, and an interest in outreach and applied research focused on watershed and estuary management in NY’s Hudson Valley.
