2017 Stormwater Scholarship Available

Graduate students studying water quality, stormwater management or stormwater finance at a Florida college or university are eligible to receive the Florida Stormwater Association Educational Foundation’s (FSAEF) Scholarship.  The deadline to submit an application is August 4, 2017.  

The Florida Stormwater Association (FSA) is a non-profit, professional association of local governments, engineering and consulting firms, water management districts, and academic institutions that have an interest in stormwater management and finance.  Its goals are to improve water quality and enhance the stormwater management profession in Florida.  The FSA Educational Foundation is a parallel organization that supports FSA through stormwater research and the scholarship program.

Post-Doc, GIS-Analyst, and Ph.D assistantship

We are very pleased to announce three new opportunities to support the Strategic Conservation Assessment of Gulf Coast Landscapes (SCA) project. This project will coalesce existing conservation and socioeconomic priorities into conservation planning decision support tools to aid the Restore Council and their stakeholders in identifying high priority lands for voluntary conservation efforts.

1)      Seeking Postdoctoral Associate in Ecological Modeling

The SCA project team is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate in Ecological Modeling to be based out of the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Mississippi State University.  The Postdoctoral Associate must hold a Ph.D. in biological or environmental engineering, geography, geosciences, ecology, environmental science/management, or other related fields. ABD candidates will also be considered. The ideal candidate will have some combination of the following skills: spatially explicit ecological modeling, landscape conservation, MCDA, programming (especially Python), and web-based app development. 2)      Seeking Research Associate – Geospatial Analyst

The SCA project team is seeking a Geospatial Analyst Research Associate to be based out of the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries & Aquaculture at Mississippi State University.  The applicant must hold minimally a B.S. in geography, geosciences, ecology, environmental science/management, coastal or marine ecology, wildlife and fisheries science, or other related fields and minimum of 3 years of relevant experience and the equivalent of a master’s degree; or a M.S. degree and minimum of 1 year of relevant experience and demonstrated competency.  A strong background and expertise with geographic information systems (GIS) and other related software applications and technologies is required.  The ideal candidate will also have some combination of experience developing web-enabled geospatial data applications, expertise in other GIS software applications and html programming applications, as well as experience working in Gulf Coast landscape conservation, large-scale data applications, spatially explicit ecological modeling, multi-criteria decision analysis, and interacting with stakeholders.  Additional information and detailed submission instructions can be found in the attached GIS Analyst Position Description. 3)      Seeking Ph.D. Student in Coastal Ecological Modeling and Geospatial Application Development

The SCA project team is seeking a Ph.D. student to be based out of either the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering or the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries & Aquaculture at Mississippi State University.  The student will work with SCA staff to develop a suite of ecological models and associated geospatial applications predicting ecosystem, species, and/or socioeconomic response to potential Gulf Coast system stressors and planned coastal restoration activities. The Ph.D. student must hold a Master’s degree in geography, geosciences, ecology, environmental science/management, biological/environmental engineering, coastal or marine ecology, wildlife and fisheries science, or other related fields with competitive GPA and GRE scores. Research experience with predictive ecological modeling and geographic information systems (GIS), and a demonstrated publication record are preferred. Univ of Arkansas Program Associate for Irrigation Water Management Program

Program Associates operate in an independent, decision-making role in the planning & execution of programs. Work objectives are coordinated with Project Leaders and/or other supervisors, but project implementation & management are primarily the responsibilities of the Program Associate.

Duties include some laboratory but mostly field activities in irrigation water management. Includes but not limited to repairing and installing irrigation equipment, planting crops, harvesting crops, spraying crops, retrieving information from data logging equipment, manual data collection, data summarization and analysis of field experiments.

A BS or MS in agricultural or biological engineering, crop, soil, or environmental science, comparable engineering discipline, agriculture or related field is required. Experience with irrigation or water management highly desirable. ForEverglades Scholarship and Fellowship Program Announcement

The Everglades Foundation is offering scholarship and fellowship opportunities to students engaged in advanced research supporting the restoration of America’s Everglades.

The Foundation is committed to supporting graduate research students actively pursuing the development of innovative scientific methods to advance the understanding of Everglades physical, chemical or biological processes, or research in economic impacts of environmental changes.

AWARDS
Scholarships provide up to $20,000 for PhD students and $10,000 for Masters students. Funds may go towards stipends, tuition fees, travel, and other research-related expenses. The amount of money associated with the scholarship is subject to change. The number of scholarships awarded depends
on the number and quality of applications.

Fellowships provide up to $20,000 / year (PhD level) and $10,000 / year (MSc level) for stipends, tuition fees, travel, and other research-related expenses. The duration of this fellowship is set for 12 months.
