Thomas H. Smouse Memorial Fellowship

The Thomas H. Smouse Memorial Fellowship is awarded to a graduate student doing research in areas of interest to AOCS. Smouse was President of AOCS in 1983 and a noted industrial researcher into the flavor chemistry of fats and oils.

Eligibility requirements:

• Individuals must be scholastically outstanding with interests and involvement outside their academic discipline
• Must be enrolled full-time as a graduate student for the 2017-2018 academic year

The award consists of a pair of inscribed bookends, a $10,000 stipend, $5,000 in research and travel funds, and an award lecture at the AOCS Annual Meeting.

This award is open to graduate students doing research in areas of interest to AOCS. Please refer to the Award Guidelines (.pdf) for the detailed eligibility guidelines.

Nominations Candidates should compile a completed application (.doc) and official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate college or university work completed to date, and provide these to their major professor. The professor will then review the application for completeness, and fill out the required professor statement contained within the application. The completed application and all supporting materials should then be sent as a single mailing to the AOCS main office by February 1.
